The iPhone Dev-Team has released Mac versions of PwnageTool and QuickPwn that jailbreak the 2.2.1 iPhone firmware. Windows version of QuickPwn is expected soon.
1. GOLDEN RULE: If you have a 3G iPhone running 2.2 firmware and you want to keep your ability to use yellowns0w (or the option to use it in the future) do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool. 2. Yellowsn0w will NOT work with the baseband version (02.30.03) that is present in the recent 2.2.1 update - you will need to create a custom ipsw that will allow you to update safely without affecting the baseband. 3. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools. 4. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again. 5. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the latest versions of PwnageTool and QuickPwn. 6. These apps are suitable for the recent 2.2.1 release. 7. The Yellowsn0w version has been updated to 0.9.7. Yellowsn0w is available from Cydia or Installer - this version allows compatibility with pwned 2.2.1 system (not baseband) - again - remember 0.9.7 yellowsn0w DOES NOT WORK WITH 2.2.1 (02.30.03) directly - you need to be running a ‘pwned’ version of 2.2.1 which doesn’t upgrade the baseband. 8. Users of OS X 10.5.6 will be unable to use DFU mode correctly, please see the note towards the end of this post to easily fix this issue.

As the Snow Leopard release grows closer more details have been released about the upcoming operating system, according to an AppleInsider report.
Apple initially seemed to suggest that Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard would be a minor release following 2007's 10.5 Leopard, citing support for Exchange Server push messaging as the only customer-facing feature. However, Apple historically directs attention upon its currently shipping products rather than its future plans. As the Snow Leopard release grows closer (remarks at WWDC last summer indicated it would ship "in about a year," or Summer 2009), more details have been released.
Snow Leopard will deliver a full 64-bit kernel, requiring the same significant "all at once" upgrade in device drivers that Vista's significant kernel changes did. Apple will likely have an easier time pulling this off, as Snow Leopard is only designed to run on a relatively small number of higher end PCs, all made by Apple. Rather than trying to get lots of vendors on board as Microsoft must, Apple will be supplying the majority of kernel-level drivers for Snow Leopard.
Take 3, a software update that might arrive as early as next month, could bring more TV and a hardware refresh to the Apple TV, according to TGDaily.
They list 5 features they think the ATV3 will deliver:
Full HD and DVR capabilities
Built-in digital TV (ATSC) tuner
Built-in Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme
Premium TV channels via iTS
The App Store
The ability to pause live DTV and go back in time, schedule and transfer recordings via/to the iPhone for on-the-go control and viewing, playing casual games and managing iTunes libraries on the device would help put "TV" into ATV - and add home media server functionality. Apple could really take all of aforementioned ideas even one step further by enabling iChat video conferencing, IM, email and web surfing, all while watching live TV with notifications unobtrusively overlaid as the evening news shows story-related pop-ups, over-the-shoulder and paint messages. MobileMe could also easily push contacts, calendars and email to ATV3, while the iPhone might double as a Wi-Fi ATV3 remote via an upgraded Remote application.

When you need to copy and transfer audio and video media back from iPod or iPhone to PC computer, CopyTrans can come to rescue, especially so if you don’t want to use the manual way to copy and transfer iPod and iPhone music and video to PC, as iTunes does not provide reverse-sync feature.
CopyTrans, which formerly known as CopyPod is a backup & recovery tool for songs and videos on iPod and iPhone. CopyTrans able to fully rebuild the iTunes library by retrieving, transferring and importing iPod music, videos, ratings, playlists, artworks, podcasts, play count and other metadata information from iPod, iPod Touch and iPhone to PC or iTunes. As an additional feature, CopyTrans also perform backup function to safeguard against accidental lost of both iPod and computer, by creating a backup of the content on iPod, iPod Touch or iPhone to external hard drive.
the trial version of CopyTrans is good enough, especially for users with small library, as 14-day trial version of CopyTrans is only limited to a maximum of 100 songs backup per session. Download the CopyTrans Suite Installer from copytrans.net, which also contains other software products from the developers, such as CopyTrans Photo, iLibs, iCloner, CopyTrans Doctor and CopyTrans Manager, or you can download the standalone CopyTrans zip package, which does not require installation, and can be ran after unpacking to a folder.
Using CopyTrans to recover the contents on iPod or iPhone to PC is indeed a very easy and simply task. Just connect the iPod or iPhone to PC, then run CopyTrans. CopyTrans will then scan through the portable media player to get a list of media files stored on the device. Then select which songs or movies that needs to be copied, transferred and restored (in CopyTrans term, it’s backup, probably to avoid lawsuit from Apple) to PC. Selection can be done one-by-one, or by playlist, artist or album. Of course, the important Select All check box is available too.
Then, users can decide whether to let CopyTrans copies all the songs or videos to a folder on PC, or restores the media to iTunes library library by clicking on “Backup to Folder” or “Backup to iTunes” button. Restoring to iTunes will present another dialog which allows user to select iTunes music folder, file and folder preview and customization, and what information to import into iTunes, such as ratings, play counts and date last played. Best thing is, when importing to iTunes, the order of the songs in playlists is preserved as on iPod.
Once ready, click on “Start Backup” button, and all selected songs or other media will be transferred from iPod to local comptuer, and then been imported and populated nicely back into iTunes library (need to disconnect the iTunes half-way in the process though). If there is no iTunes installed (such is the case if you borrow iPod or iPhone from friend), just copy the music and movie tracks to a folder, which can be on a removable drive. Copytrans can create a XML file for iTunes import for later use.
Other feature the MDL found useful is “incremental backup with fast duplicate checks” which suitable for user who may receive or download songs or music tracks directly via iPhone wireless connectivity, or regularly add songs to iPod from multiple sources. Incremental backup will download from iPod or iTunes to iTunes on local PC only the tracks that are missing from library.
The developer has put up a demo video to show how CopyTrans wizard-like iPod and iPhone recovery process works:
Once the iPod contents have been copied back to iTunes, the synchronization process now works as normally do, with songs will appear to be the same on local computer and iPod.
In summary, CopyTrans provides a very easy way to copy back content on portable device to computer. It costs $19.99 to purchase the license to unlock the full version. The price is worthwhile to pay if you have bunch of music on iPod or iPhone that should be backed up or copied to PC, or else you will have to pay a bomb to get these songs again.
Visit copytrans.net for more information on CopyTrans.

If you are one of the AT&T subscribers with 2G capable mobile devices and consistently experienced poor signal strength in certain area that used to have full coverage, you may be interested with the report released from OFB, one of the online news publication recently. According to its Chief Editor, Timothy Butler, with the continuous high demand of 3G network, AT&T is said to have sacrifice some of its existing 2G transmitter stations, giving way to an upgraded 3G network transmitters with the aim to improve 3G reception in certain area.
The situation is understandable due to the highest demand of 3G network cpverage with limited transmitters infrastructure especially when the service provider tried to prepare for the Apple’s famous 3G iPhone official launching in few months back. However, current 2G mobile devices such as first generation Apple’s iPhone, RIM’s Blackberry that are relied solely on 850MHz frequency band will suffer severe signal degradation after the station being upgraded to 3G network that operates at 1900MHz with lower transmission power. The scenario has been confirmed by AT&T technical personnel when such complaints were received and surprisingly, those consumers were advised to switch to 3G capable mobile devices in order to get rid of these signal instability issues.
The move is supposed to be great news for those users that plan to upgrade to 3G mobile devices. However, instead of trying to sacrifice current Quality of services, with almost half of AT&T subscribers still stuck with 2G mobile devices, the network service provider should consider adding more base stations to fulfill the increasing demand of 3G users despite the current economic situation. Hopefully AT&T will able to ensure a smooth transition when there is a plan to switch from 3G to even more advanced 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) in short future.

In an open letter to the Apple community, Steve Jobs revealed that he's suffering from a hormone imbalance that has caused his rapid weight loss. He also confirm's that this is why Phil is giving the MacWorld keynote.
............................................................................ Dear Apple Community,For the first time in a decade, I'm getting to spend the holiday season with my family, rather than intensely preparing for a Macworld keynote.Unfortunately, my decision to have Phil deliver the Macworld keynote set off another flurry of rumors about my health, with some even publishing stories of me on my deathbed.I've decided to share something very personal with the Apple community so that we can all relax and enjoy the show tomorrow. As many of you know, I have been losing weight throughout 2008. The reason has been a mystery to me and my doctors. A few weeks ago, I decided that getting to the root cause of this and reversing it needed to become my #1 priority.Fortunately, after further testing, my doctors think they have found the cause, a hormone imbalance that has been robbing me of the proteins my body needs to be healthy. Sophisticated blood tests have confirmed this diagnosis. The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I've already begun treatment. But, just like I didn't lose this much weight and body mass in a week or a month, my doctors expect it will take me until late this Spring to regain it. I will continue as Apple's CEO during my recovery.I have given more than my all to Apple for the past 11 years now. I will be the first one to step up and tell our Board of Directors if I can no longer continue to fulfill my duties as Apple’s CEO. I hope the Apple community will support me in my recovery and know that I will always put what is best for Apple first. So now I've said more than I wanted to say, and all that I am going to say, about this.Steve .........................................................
The Apple Board of Directors has responded with the following statement .......................................................... It is widely recognized both inside and outside of Apple that Steve Jobs is one of the most talented and effective CEOs in the world. As we have said before, if there ever comes a day when Steve wants to retire or for other reasons cannot continue to fulfill his duties as Apple’s CEO, you will know it.Apple is very lucky to have Steve as its leader and CEO, and he deserves our complete and unwavering support during his recuperation. He most certainly has that from Apple and its Board. .........................................................
A patch by Carlo Franchino fixes phone number formatting for countries that are not supported by the iPhone 2.2 firmware.
The Format Fix is hosted by the iSpazio Repository:
Formatting is very useful when international prefix, area code and subscriver number are correctly separated with spaces or dashes but is tremendous if wrong informations or formats of other countries are used. This application essentially replace the format file with an upgraded version . It only works for 2.2 firmwares, we have already released another version of this app for 2.1 firmwares.
The fix supports nearly fifty countries and can be installed through the Localization Section of Cydia Installer.
iPhone users who live in cold climates may soon have a new option for keeping their fingers warm while trying to make a phone call or playing a game at the bus stop. A recently-published patent application reveals that Apple may be working on its own solution.
Apple’s patent application 20090000010 is filed on June 28, 2007 and published January 1, 2009. The patent describes “a glove system for operating an electronic device.”
From Apple’s descriptions, it sounds like these iPhone gloves would allow the liner to be removed. The tips on the other shell may be peeled back (or use an elastic ring) to expose the finger underneath, which would allow iPhone owners to control their devices in cold climates without having to completely remove their gloves.
At this moment, a company called Dots, has offered The iPhone Glove for some time now. Its implementation places specialized tips on the outside of the glove, no peeling back or elastic material needed.
Of course, this is only a patent, and in no way a hard indicator that iGloves are on their way.

At the same times, Android Market will be expanding to others countries in the coming weeks which include Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands getting the service ahead of other European and Asian Countries. Same as the launch of G1 handset in the US, the launch of Android Market is expected to come at the same times with the release of Android Phone at that particular country.
The iPhone Dev-Team is warning people about the unauthorized theft and sale of the yellowsn0w unlock.
Seems like “Jody Sanders” of the West Midlands, UK (who we mentioned in our release post) is at it again and is stealing our work and passing it off as his own, he has done this before and this scam was reported by the Guardian and also by us before and was also covered in a very very long thread over at hackint0sh forums.
We specifically restrict the commercial use of our software, and yellowsn0w is included in these restrictions. This dodgy geezer is selling our software to you at a bargain £19.99 he says:-
“We can now fully unlock the iPhone 3G for use on any GSM network for just £19.99 DIY (£49.99 in-store at either London or Birmingham) - just in time for the release of the iPhone 3G PAYG in the UK (available from Carphone Warehouse and o2).”
The iPhone Dev-Team is asking anyone with more information about iph*neunl*ckuk and Jody Sanders to contact them at blog@iphone-dev.org. They would also appreciate any legal advice or assistance.
As Yellowsnow is still in beta phase, you would expect it to contain bugs here and there. In fact, there are lots of reports that saying attempt to unlock iPhone 2G or iPhone 3G with firmware 2.2 at baseband 02.28.00 does not work . Which means the iPhone still lock to a single telco despite using Yellowsn0w after using QuickPwn to jailbreak it.
But iPhone Dev Team is working quickly to fix all the issues on soft unlock the iPhone. As such, new versions of Yellowsn0w has been updated and released in quick succession, firstly 0.9.1 and then to current version of 0.9.4.
Yellowsn0w 0.9.1 extends the delay for SiM card to initialize to 60 seconds, where unlocker has to wait a full minute after you see homescreen, then reinsert sim card. Yellowsn0w eliminates the one-minute delay step and fixes the issue without the need to wait a minute and then replug the SIM. However, if you don’t see your carrier when your homescreen comes up, you may still need a sim reinsert (for now).
The Yellowsn0w 0.9.4 can be downloaded fromm the following URL using Cydia or Installer.
Apple may offer a significant update to iMovie at Macworld according to ComputerWorld sources. Their sources say iMovie will largely (if not entirely) be a Web Application and Apple would offer its users to "upload your movies to us and edit them there." iMovie in the Cloud would make video access easy for iPhone and iPod touch users. If it can function as a standalone web application this would open up its potential user base dramatically.
If you see one you like and decide to download it, you can install it by dropping the [screen savername].saver file into either /Library/Screen Savers (to make it available to all users of your Mac) or ~/Library/Screen Savers (to keep it all to yourself).
Below are links to the Web sites for the screen savers. All screen savers work on Intel Macs.
ToasterClone (free) : note that the developers of ToasterClone are currently in licensing negotiations, so ToasterClone has been temporarily removed from the Web site; however, the developers expect to be able to make the screen saver available again soon, so check the URL in a few weeks.
Collage Screen Saver (donations accepted) : creates a moving collage out of a folder of photos of your choosing.
Electric Sheep (free) : difficult to describe, this module connects your computer with others on the 'net to create, in the words of the developer, "morphing abstract animations known as 'sheep.'" You can rate each creation as it's displayed, and higher-rated animations "live longer and reproduce according to a genetic algorithm with mutation and cross-over. Hence the flock evolves to please its global audience." Make sense? Even if it doesn't, Electric Sheep is worth checking out. The downside is that new "sheep offspring" are hefty downloads.
Helios (free) : a beautiful module involving colorful blobs of matter that produce and absorb tiny particles.
Hills (free) : a realistic flyover of computer-generated grassy hills. Tip: In the settings screen, set the slider values to 8.63, 50, 5.39, 1.31, 256, 0.011, and choose your favorite blue as the Fog Color to give the illusion of a blue sky. (Thanks to a commenter on the linked site for the inspiration for those settings.)
Red Baron (free) : a fun screen saver that follows the Red Baron's biplane as it flies over a grassy landscape. Caveat: If you don't have a Mac Pro or the latest MacBook Pro, move along.
Serene Saver 2 HD ($50) : includes over a dozen high-definition videos of calm, relaxing environments to help you relax during your Mac's downtime; these videos can also be used as full-motion Desktop backgrounds. The program can also be used to force work breaks, and it smartly disables itself when running off battery power. Pricey, but attractive, soothing, and—yes—useful.
Snowfall (free) : creates complex and beautiful snowflakes that fall down your screen. You can choose either a colored background or your favorite image—it's quite odd to see it snowing over a sunny Kauai panorama.
SurveillanceSaver (free) : displays a random feed from over 1000 Web-based surveillance cameras around the world. It's like on-demand cable, but with security cameras.
Pwnage Tools runs on Mac OS X only (Windows users use QuickPwn), and with the release of iPhone firmware version 2.2 , PwnageTool 2.2.1 has been released to support the newest software and baseband.
PwnageTool is normally used when user want to create a custom firmware (.ipsw) which will not contain the baseband update that comes with new version of firmware, but still want to enjoy the new features of new version iPhone firmware on iPhone 3G.
Version 2.2.1 of Pwnage Tool fixes a bug related to “Simple Mode”, where previously in Pwnage Tool 2.2, user has to rely on “Expert Mode” as a workaround.

Sources are confident a new Mac mini is set to be announced at Macworld Expo 2009 next week, according to TUAW.
Their sources have begun to provide the details of the new system. First, the internal optical drive is changing to a SATA optical drive that can be swapped out for a second SATA hard drive. Second, they say the Mac mini won't be topped with white plastic like the current model; instead, it will use black plastic and aluminum and have a "lip" similar to the Time Capsule.
9to5mac has just relieved a truckload of Macworld 2009 tips. One of them being that iWork will turn into Web Applications. There will also be some Template and Transition additions. ............................................................................. We just got a truckload of Macworld information dumped on us from our best source. As we piece it together we'll trickle it out. The first big piece of information is that iWork is going into the Cloud. Not just storage, either. We are talking interface for Numbers, Pages and Keynote (which is going to see some interesting new templates and transition additions). Yes, the iWork applications are now going to be Web Applications.
This isn't a huge surprise as the industry (Google, Microsoft, Zoho) is heading in this direction. Questions remain that we'll try to get sorted ASAP. Will this work on iPhone/iPod touch? Will there be traditional apps that go along for offline access - or will this use Safari's new Offline DB functionality? Stay tuned...
Oh, and we've heard there is going to be some "Magic" involved. (Yes this is a clue) .............................................................................
